On Thursday, April 19th The Exceptional Foundation inducted 4 new members to its Aktion Club. The new inductees were John Miller Gorrie, Ebony Alexander, Julie Rickels and Daniel Thrasher. The Aktion Club, sponsored by the Homewood-Mountain Brook Kiwanis Club, provides adults living with disabilities an opportunity to develop initiative, leadership skills and to serve their communities through volunteer activities. Recent Aktion Club service projects benefitted Birmingham Community Kitchens, the Salvation Army and Center Point Elementary tornado victims. The club’s more than 20 members are all participants at The Exceptional Foundation.

This week we got in touch with our inner Picassos! We had a great time drawing ourselves and got silly in art! We took to true Picasso form and cut our masterpieces up and rearranged them into jigsaw puzzles.

Last week at The Exceptional Foundation we went on a little Safari during art. The participants made puppets of their favorite animals. We had a lot of fun and we had some very creative animals!

Hi, my name is Amy Williamson. I teach morning art at The Exceptional Foundation. I thought starting a blog of all the art and crafts our participants make would be a great way for our families and friends to see what we’ve been up to.
