WHOLE FOODS MARKET TEAMS WITH THE EXCEPTIONAL FOUNDATION FOR QUARTERLY 5% DAY
Birmingham, AL (Friday, February 22, 2008) – Through its “5% Day” quarterly fundraising program, Whole Foods Market donates five percent of a designated day’s sales to a local nonprofit organization as part of a commitment to helping communities grow stronger and healthier. On Wednesday, March 5, Whole Foods Market – Mountain Brook highlights the efforts of The Exceptional Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to meeting the social and recreational needs of the mentally and / or physically challenged individuals in the greater Birmingham Area.
Tricia Kirk, executive director for the Foundation said she is thrilled with the newly formed partnership. “This opportunity provided by Whole Foods Market will aid our effort to fund and further develop our sports program,” said Kirk. “On behalf of our participants and Board members, we are grateful to Whole Foods Market for their generosity, enabling us to further our Mission.”
Through the use of sports, games, activities, arts-and-crafts, and field trips, The Exceptional Foundation helps its participants achieve a higher level of confidence, giving them the opportunity to lead a more “normal” life. The activities that participants at The Exceptional Foundation engage themselves in are fun and entertaining, but the ultimate goal of any sport, craft, or field trip is to teach the participants social cognitive skills, enabling the participants to attain the greatest level of independence they have known.
