Each summer, more than 100 school-age participants spend their days at The Exceptional Foundation enjoying swimming, music, cooking, science, art, and adaptive P.E. activities as well as frequent swimming and field trip days.  Check out our tentative activities calendar for more information.

Participants are divided in to three, age-appropriate groups and each group has its own fun schedule of activities.

Summer hours are 7:50 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Please check out our FAQ below for more information.

Does The Exceptional Foundation have participant criteria?

The Exceptional Foundation Participant Criteria:
➝ Must be ages 5 and up
➝ Must have independent self-help skills (i.e.: toileting, feeding without assistance)
➝ Must be able to follow simple commands and participate in activities with minimal assistance from staff.
➝ Must have established social maturity to the degree that they are able to interact appropriately with other program participants.
➝ The physical, cognitive, and medical needs of participants must be such that they do not require one-on-one assistance or exceed the established participant/staff ratio.
➝ There will be a 30-day evaluation period to determine if our program can adequately address the needs of the participant.

How do I become a participant?

What happens during the admission interview?

The admission interview is about a 30 to 45-minute meeting at The Exceptional Foundation with the participant, caregiver, and participant coordinator to review the program, get to know each other, get a tour of the facility, and receive the participant paperwork.

Does Summer Camp serve youth or adults?

Our Summer Camp is for school-age participants only. However, our adults have full-day program in the summer as well. Please visit our Adult Programs page to learn more.

Do I have to enroll for all 8 weeks?

No. Participant enrollment is flexible, but must remain consistent from week to week. Participants are welcome to choose which weeks, days, and hours (full or half days) they will attend.

How much does summer camp cost?

➝ Full Days = $40 per day ($50 drop in fee)
➝ Half Days = $30 per day ($25 drop-in fee)
➝ Summer Camp enrollment forms cannot be accepted without payment of a non-refundable, $150 Activities Fee.

Are campers split into groups?

Yes. Participants are split into age-appropriate groups. The Exceptional Foundation staff will place your participant into the appropriate group, but typically follow the guidelines below:
➝ Blue Group: early elementary school
➝ Gray Group: older elementary and middle school
➝ Red Group: older middle and high school

What does a typical day of camp look like?

Each morning, participants take field trips with their group. After lunch, participants have a quiet time to re-charge for the afternoon. Each afternoon, we have a different vendor who comes to share an activitiy with our campers.
